History of Audemars Piguet

In the 1870s Audemars and Piguet both worked in the watch industry. The 2 best friends did completely different things inside of the watch industry. Audemars was creating complicated watch movements for different companies. These companies would use his products and put them in their watch cases to sell them to the public. You could say that Audemars was the brains behind all the watches. Piguet on the other hand did something completely different; he didn't do anything with creating difficult watch mechanics. His job was checking all the watches before they get sold to the customers. He was responsible for the condition the watches were in before they got sent to the customers. This meant that he had to check all the watches for little imperfections and if the watches were in working condition. In 1975 both Audemars and Piguet came together and started the company Audemars Piguet. Because they both have worked for other watch companies in the past they have a lot of knowledge about watches, this gave them a bit of an advantage compared to other watch companies. In Audemars Piguet their roles were a bit different than the roles they had in the companies they used to work for. Audemars role was instead of creating the complicated watch movement he was keeping a close eye on the production of the watches. Because he knew a lot about these watches this was the perfect job for him. Piguet was focusing on the management and sales for the business. How bigger their name became the more sales they would make. In 1881 the company got their first and official name. At the time their name was Audemars Piguet & Cie.

Special Audemars Piguet watches

Audemars and Piguet made a new discovery in the watch industry. They discovered the technique to create repeater pocket watches. These pocket watches had a special feature. This pocket watch makes different sounds for every minute, 15 minutes, and every hour. This made it easier to know the time without constantly looking at your pocket watch. At the time this was the first pocket watch that had this new feature. This made Audemars Piguet stand out from all the other watch companies because they created something that no other company had. But Audemars Piguet didn’t stop there. In 1899 they created another special watch. This special pocket watch was called the grand collection pocket watch. This watch did not only show the time it also had a lot of other features. The features that came with this watch are minute repeater, deadbeat seconds, perpetual calendar, alarm, chronograph and a split-second hand.

New owners

In 1918 and 1919 both Audemars and Piguet died. But the success of the company did not stop there. Both their kids picked up where they left off and went on with the success of the company. In 1925 they created the thinnest pocket watch at that time. In 1967 they created the thinnest self-winding watch with a central rotor. This watch was extremely thin in comparison with all the other watches. It was so thin in fact that they got a record for it. Because of all these impressive achievements the company had started growing. They created more and more watches that stood out from the rest. Because they did this the company grew even more and became a bigger company than ever before.

The Durability of AP watches

The durability of an Audemars Piguet watch is incredibly good. The watches they create are very strong and can handle a punch. This is because they use a lot of strong materials when they create their watches. They use a ceramic which is created with zirconium oxide and yttrium oxide. These 2 materials create a sturdy material that is very well resisted against small scratches and cracks. This material mostly gets used in other top model watches on the market. Because they use these materials, and the design is very sturdy, it makes it possible to go swimming with these watches. The watches are up to 50 meters water resistant. So, you don’t have to worry about your watch breaking while using it underwater. Because these watches are very comfortable you don’t need to take them off your wrist while you go swimming or if you are doing other activities.
