Richard Mille

Richard Mille was born on the 13th of February in 1951 in a small village called Draguignan. In 1974 he started working at a local watchmaker called Finhor. In 1981, the company was bought by Matra. Because of this, Richard Mille was promoted to manager. 11 years later Richard chose to leave this company and started working for another watch company called Mauboussin. After a disagreement Richard had with the company, he decided to give up his position as general director and launch his own range of watches. At the end of 1998 he decided to present his idea to his friend Dominique Guenat (owner of Montre Valgine).

Richard Mille history

In early 1999, Richard Mille and Dominique Guenat came up with a plan for creating the Richard Mille brand. They did this in collaboration with Guenat S.A. Montres Valgine and Audemars Piguet. 2 years later, they established the definitive plans for the company. While making these plans, they came up with a lot of innovative ideas for the watches. For example, they decided to use the technologies from formula 1 cars and airplanes in the design. This not only resolves in the watches being extremely sturdy it also makes for a unique design that no other company has. With these plans in mind, they started creating the watches.

After 3 years of working on different prototypes and inventing new technologies, they came out with their very first watch, the RM 001. This watch was shown in Basel, Switzerland at the watch and jewelry show. Here all aspects of the watch were shown, so one could see the unique design and the way that the watch functioned. Soon after, Richard Mille was seen among luxury and ultra-luxury watches. This was due to the use of top-class materials and the intricate technologies they use in these watches.

Improvement

Richard Mille was not only increasing their collection, but they were also improving their watches by adding small elements to each watch. One of which was a second time zone so that you could see what time it was in your own country and a country on the other side of the world. Richard Mille also started using carbon fiber in their watches. This made for a strong yet incredibly light watch. Because of the carbon fiber the watch was so strong that even with extreme temperatures the watch would not bend and yet still be lightweight. This made carbon fiber the best product to use for their watches.

Pocket watch

Richard Mille is known for his many luxurious watches. Richard Mille also created a pocket watch. This one was made for people who had a love for a classic pocket watch but with the modern design from Richard Mille. These pocket watches were made in small quantities. This makes this Richard Mille pocket watch one of the most unique watches in the world.

In 2009 Richard Mille decided to make a different kind of watch, instead of the very industrial design they went for a more colorful and feminine design. Because the previous watches were very much geared towards men, women had a harder time wearing them. Because of this, Richard Mille decided to change this. So, they created the RM 019-02. This watch was different from the continuing watches. This watch had a vibrant design with a lot of different colors instead of the usual carbon fiber. After this Richard Mille started making more universal watches that not only men but also women could wear.

Classic design

The design of a Richard Mille is very well known among luxury sports. For example, you see many of these watches used in Formula 1, tennis, golf, and many more top sports. The watches cannot be missed because of the large and chunky design. But what makes the design so unique compared to all other brands? This design has a larger case, and you can easily see through the watch. So, you can see all the internal parts at work. Also, the whole watch is made with the best materials, so everything shines and looks nice. Compared to the other watches Richard Mille does not use that much silver and gold in their design. This makes their watches easily stick out from the rest of the luxury watches on the market.
